Jacqueline Smith, $250,000 Extra Winner
FORT McMURRAY — Another Fort McMurray resident is celebrating a major lottery win, the second big prize claimed locally in just two weeks.
Jacqueline Smith won $250,000 on EXTRA in the June 13 draw after matching all seven digits of the winning number, 6472115.
Smith discovered the win while stopping to buy more lottery tickets and realizing she had some older tickets waiting to be checked.
“I went to stop and get tickets and realized I had tickets sitting around that I needed to check,” Smith said. “I scanned it and saw the $250,000.”
The size of the prize took a moment to register.
“I said, ‘Holy ****, look at this!’” she said. “I showed my husband and he didn’t believe me until he saw for himself.”
Smith already has plans for the windfall, including eliminating the family mortgage and sharing some of the money with her adult children.
“We’re going to pay off our mortgage, share some with our adult kids, and my husband may even get to retire sooner!” she said.
Despite having plans for the money, Smith said the experience still feels surreal.
“Oh my God, I was just so in shock,” she said. “I still can’t believe it!”
Smith bought the winning LIGHTNING LOTTO and EXTRA ticket at the Esso on Athabasca Avenue in Fort McMurray.
