FORT McMURRAY — Eddie McDonald has won the runoff election for the final seat on Mikisew Cree First Nation council and is scheduled to be sworn in today, completing the final race in the First Nation’s election, although the results remain subject to unresolved appeals.
The runoff election was required after no candidate secured the number of votes required to win the final council seat during the initial election.
McDonald emerged victorious in the second vote and joins the candidates already elected to council.

Councillors

- Joceyln May Anotine
- Eddie McDonald
The election is not absolute yet.
Eight election appeals were heard Friday, with no decisions published as of Tuesday.
The appeals primarily stem from complaints involving the vote-counting process.
Under the First Nation’s election bylaws, the counting process exceeded the three-hour limit prescribed in the rules, prompting complaints and challenges to the election results.
Decisions on the eight appeals remain outstanding as McDonald and the successful council members
