FORT McMURRAY — Suncor’s Indigenous and Community Relations team has informed Fort McKay First Nation of a fire at the company’s Mildred Lake facility, prompting the First Nation to alert residents through social media.
In a community notification issued Monday morning, Suncor said the fire began overnight on the Mildred Lake sulphur block.
The company said Syncrude’s Emergency Response team is actively managing the incident and crews are continuing efforts to extinguish the remaining fire.
Suncor said all site personnel have been accounted for and are safe.
The company also said the appropriate regulatory authorities have been notified.
No additional details about the cause of the fire or the extent of any damage were immediately available.
Suncor said further information is available through its Community and Indigenous Relations group.
