FORT McMURRAY — School is not yet out for summer, but the Fort McMurray Public School Division is already busy planning for the 2026-27 academic year with the appointment of several new vice-principals across the district.
The division announced leadership appointments at six schools, including Fort McMurray Islamic School, École McTavish High School, Thickwood Heights Public School, Christina Gordon Public School, Timberlea Public School and Dr. K.A. Clark Public School.
Among the appointments is Douglas Robertshaw, who will become vice-principal at Fort McMurray Islamic School. Robertshaw brings more than a decade of educational experience, including teaching roles in Calgary and Fort McMurray. Most recently, he served as learning assistance coach and English as an Additional Language co-ordinator at Fort McMurray Composite High School.
École McTavish High School will welcome three new vice-principals.
Shannon Dube, who has spent 19 years with the division, moves into the role after serving as acting vice-principal at the school. Her career has included classroom teaching as well as division-wide leadership roles in numeracy and career education.
Robert Skulsky also joins the school’s administrative team, bringing 22 years of educational and leadership experience, including 13 years as a vice-principal at several FMPSD schools.
Kristen Craig will complete the École McTavish leadership team. Craig has worked within the division’s French immersion programs since completing her teaching degree in 2016 and has been involved in a wide range of extracurricular activities, including sports, robotics and school musical productions.
At Thickwood Heights Public School, Jennifer Africa has been appointed vice-principal. Africa brings 28 years of experience in education, with a background spanning kindergarten through Grade 12 and a particular focus on learning assistance, special education and inclusive education.
Christina Gordon Public School will welcome Denise Morris as vice-principal. Morris has more than 20 years of experience as both a teacher and administrator and previously served as the division’s literacy co-ordinator.
Timberlea Public School’s new vice-principal will be Rachel Harris, who began her teaching career at the school in 2011. A lifelong Fort McMurray resident, Harris attended École Dickinsfield and Westwood Community High School before returning to the division as an educator.
At Dr. K.A. Clark Public School, Sobhi Hamed has been appointed vice-principal. Hamed attended the school as a student before beginning a teaching career that included robotics, computer science, mathematics and English instruction. He brings previous vice-principal experience and is set to begin doctoral studies this summer.
The division said each appointee brings a commitment to supporting students, staff and families while helping foster positive and inclusive learning environments throughout the district.
The appointments take effect for the 2026-27 school year.
