FORT McMURRAY — A new youth leadership and entrepreneurship event aimed at students across the Wood Buffalo region is set to launch later this month in Fort McMurray.
The Stadek Foundation says its first annual Future Forward Youth Bootcamp will bring together students in Grades 7 through 12 for two days of workshops, mentorship and leadership development activities at SMS Equipment Place on MacDonald Island.
The free event is scheduled for May 22 and 23.
Organizers say the bootcamp will focus on leadership, entrepreneurship, communication skills, confidence building and personal development through presentations and interactive discussions led by local speakers and community mentors.
“The future of our community depends on the strength, confidence, and vision of our youth,” a representative of the Stadek Foundation said in a statement.
“This bootcamp was created to give students the opportunity to hear from local leaders, develop important life skills, and begin seeing the possibilities available to them.”
The foundation says students attending the event will also have opportunities to network with peers and community leaders while learning how leadership skills can apply to school, careers and business opportunities.
The event is being sponsored by Commons Pharmacy and supported by the Nigerian Canadian Association of Fort McMurray.
Organizers say refreshments will be provided and attendance will remain free because of support from sponsors and community partners.
The Stadek Foundation says it hopes the Future Forward Youth Bootcamp will become an annual event focused on encouraging young people to develop leadership skills and pursue future opportunities.
Registration is available through Eventbrite, with organizers noting space is limited.
