Fort McMurray – As warmer-than-normal temperatures continue, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo says snow removal efforts are ongoing after a month of unusually heavy snowfall.
Subzones 1 and 2 are active now for snow removal, with on-street parking restrictions in effect from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Subzones 3 and 4 are expected to be activated January 19 to 23.
Temporary no-parking signs are posted 24 hours in advance of planned maintenance. Once restrictions are in effect, vehicles must be removed until signs are taken down. Streets with too many parked vehicles may be skipped so crews can continue working efficiently.
Crews are also clearing snow from busier streets outside the Winter Maintenance Zone program, with work focused in Abasand, Timberlea, and Stone Creek. Back-alley snow removal is underway, with priority given to routes used for garbage and recycling collection.
Residents are reminded to clear sidewalks within 48 hours of snowfall and avoid shovelling snow back onto streets or around fire hydrants.
