FORT McMURRAY — Canada Day celebrations are returning to MacDonald Island Park with two days of free entertainment, live music, family activities and fireworks planned for residents across the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
The festivities will begin June 30 with a free outdoor concert and fireworks display at SMS Equipment Stadium.
Organizers say gates will open at 6 p.m. for an evening featuring local and Alberta musicians, food vendors, beverages and community activities.
The concert lineup includes Wood Buffalo performers Matty Parlee, Shantelle Davidson and Tyler Whelan, along with Edmonton-based headliner Derina Harvey Band.
The evening will conclude with a fireworks display scheduled for 11 p.m.
Celebrations will continue July 1 with a free family event running from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. following the annual Canada Day Parade.
Organizers say the afternoon will feature games, interactive activities, live entertainment and family-friendly programming designed to appeal to residents of all ages.
The annual event is one of the largest Canada Day celebrations in northern Alberta and is expected to draw families from Fort McMurray, Fort McKay, Anzac, Gregoire Lake Estates and communities throughout Wood Buffalo.
The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo says the goal of the event is to bring residents together to celebrate Canada Day while showcasing local talent and community spirit.
A full schedule of performances and activities is expected to be released closer to the event.
Canada Day 2026 at MacDonald Island Park is being presented through a partnership involving the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo and the Government of Canada, with support from several community sponsors.
