FORT McMURRAY — This is the final week for businesses across Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo to participate in a regional Business Retention and Expansion survey aimed at identifying barriers, improving supports and shaping future economic development initiatives.
The survey, organized through Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo Economic Development and Tourism, is part of a broader strategy focused on helping local businesses operate more efficiently and grow with fewer challenges.
Officials say business owners, contractors, Indigenous-owned businesses, retailers, tourism operators and entrepreneurs are all being encouraged to participate before the survey closes in late May.
The organization says feedback gathered through surveys, interviews and focus groups will help guide future business support programs and municipal economic initiatives across the region.
Project organizers say the process is intended to identify practical, day-to-day challenges facing businesses while improving communication between the business community and regional support organizations.
The initiative also includes engagement sessions and theme-based focus groups scheduled through late June.
Organizers say businesses participating in the survey can expect confidential consultations, updates on major themes identified during the process and future action plans tied to the results.
The organization says findings from the project and proposed next steps are expected to be shared publicly in July.
Additional business support resources connected to the initiative include Community Futures Wood Buffalo, the Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce, the Northeastern Alberta Aboriginal Business Association and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s business support services.
