FORT MCMURRAY — Regional Emergency Services in Wood Buffalo has received national accreditation for its ground ambulance service.
The accreditation was granted through Accreditation Canada’s Qmentum Global program, which evaluates health-care services on care practices, governance, leadership, quality and safety.
Regional Emergency Services provides emergency medical services across most of the Wood Buffalo region under a multi-year agreement with the provincial government. The service says paramedics responded to more than 7,300 calls for service in 2025.
The accreditation process involves a comprehensive review aimed at identifying gaps that could affect care, while helping organizations improve safety, quality and operational efficiency.
Officials say achieving accredited status reflects the work of paramedics, leadership and support staff in maintaining service standards.
“This accreditation reflects the hard work, dedication, and commitment of all team members to deliver safe, high-quality, and people-centred care,” said acting regional fire chief Kelly Roberts. “We are proud to have met these standards and will continue working to enhance the services we provide for the community.”
Regional Emergency Services says the recognition highlights its focus on delivering consistent emergency medical care across the region.
