FORT McMURRAY — Keyano College has announced the first recipients of its expanded alumni awards program, marking a milestone in the school’s 60th anniversary year. The college broadened the long running Distinguished Alumni Award into a five category program designed to showcase graduates and supporters who have made significant contributions in their professions and to communities across the region.
The college received 29 nominations across the new categories. Chelsi Ryan King earned the Distinguished Alumni Award for professional excellence and sustained community impact. The Rising Star Award went to Athus Silva, recognizing leadership and achievement by a graduate under 40. Sheresee Miller received the Volunteer Service Award for her ongoing commitment to community service, while longtime supporter Tom MacLellan was named Honorary Alumnus for contributions to the college despite not being a graduate.
Jaylynn Lee Twin Loyie was selected for the Future Alumni Award, which highlights a current student who demonstrates academic excellence, service and leadership while balancing the demands of student life. Keyano officials say the combination of new and established categories allows the institution to better acknowledge emerging leaders, dedicated volunteers and influential supporters.
Interim president and CEO Sandra Efu said the recipients reflect the college’s values and its six decade relationship with northeastern Alberta. The winners will be honoured at a reception on Nov. 27 at the Doug Barnes Cabin, part of a series of events celebrating the college’s anniversary. Keyano says the expanded awards program will now continue annually to recognize alumni and students who embody the college’s commitment to excellence, service and community leadership.
