FORT MCMURRAY — Seniors and Elders across Wood Buffalo are invited to a free holiday luncheon hosted by the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s mayor and council on Nov. 16.
The annual Council Holiday Luncheon will take place at SMS Equipment Place at MacDonald Island Park, bringing together community members aged 65 and older and Elders for an afternoon of food and holiday celebrations.
The event recognizes the contributions seniors and Elders have made to Fort McMurray and the surrounding region.
“This is an event to which we look forward every year, because it gives Council and the Municipality an opportunity to connect with the seniors and Elders of the region and express our appreciation for what they mean to us,” said Mayor Sandy Bowman.
“Without our seniors and Elders, we wouldn’t be who we are today – as people or as a region. It really us an honour for us to share this time together with all that attend.”
The luncheon runs from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with doors opening at 11 a.m.
Registration opened Monday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m. and is available online at rmwb.ca/luncheon.
Residents who need assistance registering can contact their local municipal rural office or call the municipality’s Pulse line at 780-743-7000. The toll-free number is 1-800-973-9663.
Free transportation is also available for attendees travelling from Anzac, Conklin, Fort McKay, Gregoire Lake Estates and Janvier.
Residents requiring transportation must indicate their needs when registering so arrangements can be made.
The municipality says the annual gathering provides an opportunity for council members to connect with seniors and Elders while recognizing their contributions to the community.
