FORT MCMURRAY — A Halloween celebration at Fort McMurray International Airport has raised $4,550 for United Way Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo.
The annual Pumpkins & Planes event took place Saturday, Oct. 31, bringing families to the airport for an afternoon of games, activities, treats, prizes and costume contests.
Presented by Robby’s Tractor Trailer Services, the event transformed all three levels of the airport terminal into a Halloween-themed attraction.
“Pumpkins & Planes is a wonderful opportunity to bring our community together and share the airport in a way families don’t often get to experience,” said Denean Robinson, president and CEO of the Fort McMurray Airport Authority.
“It’s especially meaningful to see our airport partners, local businesses and volunteers come together to create something special for families while supporting an important cause.”
The money was raised through event passport sales, donations and contributions from supporters, with proceeds going toward local programs and services supported by United Way.
Paula Galenzoski, executive director of United Way Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo, said the funding comes at a time of growing demand for community services.
“The need for support is greater than ever,” Galenzoski said. “Our local non-profit agencies provide essential services to individuals and families who depend on them.”
She thanked the airport authority, its partners and everyone who helped turn the Halloween celebration into support for local organizations.
The event also featured a dedicated sensory-friendly hour, providing a quieter and more comfortable environment for families who benefit from reduced noise and activity.
Robinson said the event demonstrated how the airport can serve the community beyond its role as a transportation hub.
“An airport is more than a place to catch a flight. It’s a place that brings people together,” she said.
The airport authority also acknowledged presenting sponsor Robby’s Tractor Trailer Services, emcee and DJ Mike Jones, airport businesses, volunteers and community partners for their contributions to the event.
