FORT MCMURRAY — The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has released its 2025 Truth and Reconciliation annual report, outlining work completed over the previous council term and inviting Indigenous artists to help shape next year’s edition.
The latest edition of A Collaborative Pathway Forward provides an update on municipal actions intended to advance reconciliation and support the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s 94 Calls to Action.
The report covers work completed during the 2021-2025 council term and highlights efforts to strengthen relationships, create learning opportunities, work with community partners and incorporate reconciliation into municipal operations and decision-making.
RMWB Indigenous and Rural Relations director Dennis Fraser said the report reflects contributions from First Nations and Métis communities, Elders, Knowledge Keepers and municipal staff.
“Reconciliation moves forward through the relationships we build and the actions we take every day,” Fraser said. “Their continued involvement is essential as we carry this work forward.”
The municipality says A Collaborative Pathway Forward is intended to provide accountability and transparency as residents and community partners track reconciliation efforts.
As work begins on the 2026 report, the municipality is also inviting Indigenous artists connected to the Wood Buffalo region to submit artwork for consideration.
The theme for the next edition is Truth and Reconciliation from a Wood Buffalo Perspective.
Emerging and established Indigenous artists who live in the region, are from Wood Buffalo or have a strong connection to the area are eligible to apply.
Accepted mediums include photography, painting, drawing, digital illustration, printmaking, mixed media, beadwork, textile art and other visual work suitable for print and digital publication.
Artists may submit up to four original works, and multiple submissions may be selected for inclusion in the report.
Selected artists will receive a fee in accordance with national guidelines.
Artwork created using generative artificial intelligence is not eligible.
Submissions are due by 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 31.
Artists can submit work through the municipality’s online application form or by emailing trc@rmwb.ca.
Previous editions of A Collaborative Pathway Forward, including the 2025 report, are available through the municipality’s Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action webpage.
