FORT MCMURRAY — Pumpkins & Planes is returning to Fort McMurray International Airport, bringing Halloween activities back to the terminal while raising money for United Way Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo.
The annual event will transform all three levels of the airport into a family-friendly Halloween experience, with children able to collect treats while taking part in games, activities and contests.
Families will also be able to take Halloween photos by donation, with costume contests planned at the end of each one-hour timeslot.
Robby’s Tractor Trailer Service is joining the event this year as presenting sponsor.
Fort McMurray Airport Authority president and CEO Denean Robinson said the event gives local families another way to experience the airport while supporting a community cause.
“We love opening our doors and welcoming the community to experience their airport in new ways, from our Community Aviation Event in August to families returning for Pumpkins & Planes this fall,” Robinson said.
“These events create lasting memories, help children feel at home in their local airport and give us another opportunity to support causes that matter to our region.”
Pumpkins & Planes Passports cost $5 plus a service fee, with all money raised going directly to United Way Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo.
Tickets are required for participating children, while accompanying parents and guardians can attend without a ticket. Free parking validation will also be available.
United Way Fort McMurray and Wood Buffalo executive director Paula Galenzoski said third-party fundraisers such as Pumpkins & Planes help connect community events with local charitable support.
Alberta Health Services will also be on site offering influenza immunizations during the event.
A limited-capacity sensory-friendly timeslot will run from 11 a.m. to noon, offering reduced noise and additional space for families who may benefit from a calmer environment.
Families are being asked to arrive during the one-hour timeslot listed on their ticket.
The airport says the event sells out each year and is encouraging families to register early.
