FORT MCMURRAY — Suncor is pointing to disciplined growth and mine water treatment as two priorities shaping the future of the oilsands.
Speaking at the Oil Sands Expo in Fort McMurray this week, senior vice-president of Syncrude operations Andrew Rosser said the industry still has significant opportunities ahead.
Rosser said long-term success will depend on growth that improves competitiveness, supports communities and creates lasting value.
His comments came during an industry keynote focused on the future of the oilsands.
Suncor vice-president of central development Claire Greenwood also took part in the expo, joining a panel discussion on oilsands mine water.
Greenwood said proven treatment technologies will be important to the industry’s future as companies continue reclamation work.
The treatment and release of mine water remains a key part of that process for oilsands operators working to reclaim disturbed land.
The two presentations highlighted both the economic and environmental challenges facing the sector as companies look to grow while advancing long-term reclamation.
