FORT MCMURRAY — A man was arrested after allegedly threatening police during a response to a concern for wellbeing in downtown Fort McMurray Tuesday night.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say officers, Police Dog Services and the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems unit responded at about 10:40 p.m. Sept. 15.
Police located the man in the 9000 block of Franklin Avenue.
RCMP say the man threatened to harm officers when police attempted to engage with him.
The area was contained while officers attempted to de-escalate the situation.
Police say less-than-lethal weapons were also used without success.
RCMP then deployed Police Service Dog Rookie, and the man was taken into custody.
Police say he sustained minor injuries during the arrest and was taken to Northern Lights Regional Health Centre for treatment.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say the investigation is continuing.
Police are encouraging residents to report criminal or suspicious activity and to call 911 if a crime is in progress.
