CALGARY — More than $2 million in drugs and suspected drug money has been seized in Calgary in what investigators believe includes the largest single cash seizure in ALERT history.
ALERT says its Calgary organized crime team seized more than $1 million in cash and about $1.2 million worth of drugs during an investigation July 30.
The cash was found when investigators searched a home in Calgary’s Skyview neighbourhood with assistance from Calgary police and RCMP.
Investigators are still counting and analyzing the money, but ALERT says the seizure is believed to be the largest amount of cash it has seized in a single operation.
Police also seized 3,091 grams of suspected fentanyl, 6,881 grams of suspected MDMA, 2,175 grams of methamphetamine, 481 grams of cocaine and 479 grams of cannabis.
Two other Calgary homes, in Harvest Hills and Rocky Ridge, were also searched along with two vehicles.
ALERT says the arrests were linked to an investigation in Lethbridge in May, when nearly four kilograms of cocaine were intercepted and later connected to a Calgary-based supplier.
Kerry Lu, 36, and Donald Ng, 51, have each been charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime and possession of a prohibited weapon.
ALERT says members of the public who suspect drug or gang activity can contact local police or Crime Stoppers.
