FORT McMURRAY — The Syncrude Aquatic Centre at MacDonald Island Park is closed for its annual maintenance shutdown and is scheduled to reopen Sept. 19.
The shutdown began Aug. 24 and will allow pool operators to complete a series of maintenance projects throughout the aquatic centre.
MacDonald Island Park says the annual work is intended to keep the facility clean, safe and in good condition for swimmers.
The fall was selected for the annual closure because usage at the aquatic centre is typically lower during this time of year.
Scheduling the shutdown in the fall also allows maintenance work to be completed after summer programs have ended and before fall programming begins.
Several projects are expected to be completed during the closure, although specific details about the work were not provided.
The Syncrude Aquatic Centre is scheduled to remain closed for just under four weeks before reopening Sept. 19.
More information about the annual shutdown is available through the frequently asked questions section of the amenities page on the MacDonald Island Park website.
