FORT McMURRAY — The Inter Pipeline Fort McMurray Marathon is set to return this fall, with organizers announcing the 2026 event will take place on Sept. 20.
The race, held at MacDonald Island Park, will feature distances for runners of all ages and abilities, including a full marathon, half marathon, 10-kilometre and five-kilometre races, along with a shorter run and a children’s event.
Organizers say the marathon has grown significantly in recent years, expanding from a half-marathon format to a full marathon while maintaining its focus on community participation.
“From its humble start to today, we are so delighted by the way the Wood Buffalo region has embraced the Inter Pipeline Fort McMurray Marathon,” said Kelly Dela Ronde, chair of the organizing committee and a Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo official.
The event will also include the Run for a Reason program, which allows participants to raise money for local charities and non-profit organizations.
Early bird registration is scheduled to open May 1, with registration for charities participating in the fundraising program running through the end of May.
Organizers say the event continues to attract runners and supporters from across the region, positioning it as one of Fort McMurray’s largest annual community sporting events.
