FORT McMURRAY — Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo council has approved the transfer of seven residential lots in Conklin to support new housing development in the hamlet.
Council voted April 14 to transfer the parcels to the Conklin Resource Development Advisory Committee for a nominal fee of $1, pending a formal agreement.
The lots are located on Wapos Lane, Poplar Drive and Pine Lane and are intended to support future social and affordable housing projects.
Municipal officials say the move is part of an ongoing partnership with the advisory committee, which has led housing initiatives in Conklin for more than 17 years.
Mayor Sandy Bowman says council is focused on improving housing options and supporting residents in the region, calling the decision an important step toward addressing community needs.
Scott Duguid, chief executive of the Conklin Resource Development Advisory Committee, says securing land is critical for advancing housing projects, noting many funding programs require clear land access and municipal support.
Officials say the initiative reflects broader collaboration between the municipality, industry and community partners to address housing challenges in Conklin.
