Tow Truck Crashes into Molly’s Diner in Gregoire; No Injuries Reported
FORT McMURRAY, Alta. — A popular Fort McMurray diner will remain closed for several days after a tow truck crashed into the front of the building earlier this week.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say officers were called to Molly’s Diner on Gregoire Drive around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday after receiving a report that a vehicle had smashed into the restaurant. When they arrived, they found the cab of a tow truck had collided with the building, causing significant damage.
According to police, the driver had been offloading a vehicle from the truck’s flatbed when it suddenly began rolling forward. Despite attempts to apply the brakes, the truck crashed into the building. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
No one was hurt in the incident.
RCMP issued a Provincial Violation Notice for careless driving under the Traffic Safety Act. The charge carries a $567 voluntary fine or a court appearance at the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Nov. 28.
A spokesperson for Molly’s Diner said the crash caused extensive structural damage and the business will remain closed until repairs are complete and approved by a structural engineer. The owner told Harvard Media News that business interruption insurance will help cover costs during the closure.
