
Wood Buffalo marks National Indigenous History Month with events celebrating culture and community
FORT MCMURRAY, AB. — The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is inviting residents to take part in a series of events throughout June to mark National Indigenous History Month.
The municipality is hosting several gatherings and activities to celebrate the culture, stories, and achievements of Indigenous Peoples across the region and Canada.
A highlight of the month is Burgers and Bannock at the Island, a community event taking place on Saturday, June 21, National Indigenous Peoples Day, at Shell Place. The celebration will run from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring free lunch, light entertainment, and family-friendly activities.
Residents are also encouraged to participate in It’s Time to Read, a series of events focused on Indigenous literature and storytelling. Among the offerings is a free evening screening of Sweet Summer Pow Wow, starring Fort McMurray’s own Tatyana Rose Baptiste.
