Alberta has hit a concerning milestone with 365 confirmed cases of measles, a virus known for its high contagiousness. Measles spreads easily through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, yells, sings, or breathes, and the virus can linger in the air for up to two hours, posing a risk even if the infected person is no longer present. While the mortality rate is between 1 and 3 per 10,000 cases, the best defense against this virus is staying up to date with immunizations. Currently, there are no reported measles exposures in the Wood Buffalo region.
