Wildfire near Janvier grows to 100 hectares, cause under investigation
JANVIER, AB. — A new wildfire burning about 10 kilometres north of the hamlet of Janvier has grown to approximately 100 hectares in size, making it one of the largest new wildfires in Alberta so far this year.
Alberta Wildfire says the blaze began around noon on Monday and remains classified as out of control. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The fire hazard in the Janvier region is listed as moderate, with temperatures expected to reach around 11 C and winds of over 20 km/h.
This is the only wildfire in the province currently considered out of control. The other 10 wildfires burning across Alberta’s forest protection areas, including one in the Fort McMurray Forest Area, are now classified as under control.
