Suspicious vehicle call leads to drug charges in Fort McMurray

A phone call to police about a suspicious vehicle has led to drug trafficking charges.

On Wednesday evening (August 9) a concerned citizen phoned the police to report a suspicious vehicle near the 9700 block of Hardin Street.

Police stopped a Grey Dodge Ram and began an impaired driving investigation. During that investigation, police found a substance believed to be cocaine.

According to the RCMP, the officers seized nearly 160 grams of suspected cocaine, digital scales along with drug paraphernalia, several cell phones, and multiple identification documents.

RCMP arrested the two vehicle occupants without incident.

Jana Madley, a 31-year-old resident of Fort McMurray, was arrested and is facing criminal charges including:

  • Possession for the purpose of Trafficking
  • Two counts illegal possession of Government documents

Madley was held for a Judicial Interim hearing and has been released from Police custody. She is set to appear next in the Alberta Court of Justice – Fort McMurray on August 30, 2023.

A 40-year-old female resident of Sylvan Lake was arrested and released on an Appearance Notice to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice – Fort McMurray on September 15, 2023. The female cannot be named until an Information is sworn.
