The North Zone is at 100% ICU capacity according to Premier Jason Kenney at his press conference on Tuesday.

There are 370 ICU beds across Alberta, with 318 (86%) of them occupied. Of that 318, 263 are COVID-19 patients. 229 of the 263 or 87 per cent are unvaccinated (zero vaccine doses).

Kenney has been in talks with the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, Andrew Furey, about getting assistance from the province.

“I think they are most interested in sending people up to the hospital in Fort McMurray because as Premier Furey said, Fort McMurray is Newfoundland’s second largest city,” said Kenney.

Those talks are ongoing and there might be news on that in the coming days according to Premier Kenney.

COVID Update

Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 continue to rise across the province.

As of yesterday, there were 37 more people admitted to hospitals due to the virus, bringing the total to 1100.

ICU numbers have decreased by 2, from 265 to 263.

There are 20,513 (+206) active cases in Alberta, with 276 (+12) in Fort McMurray, and 23 (+5) in rural areas.

The 7 day rolling average positivity rate across the province is 10.6 per cent, meanwhile in the North Zone it is 19.8 per cent.

To date, there has been 2,663 (+18) deaths due to COVID-19, 18 of which have been in Fort McMurray and one in the rural areas.
