A man arrested in Fort McMurray for possessing restricted guns has been sentenced to two and a half years in jail.

Nicholas Moores was arrested back in 2018 after being linked to an ‘organized crime’ group in Edmonton.

At the time of his arrest, he had a loaded handgun tucked into his waistband. Police also found four other firearms in his Edmonton home, along with a bulletproof vest.

He was subsequently charged with 23 counts, pleading guilty earlier this year to six.

This included three counts of possession of a restricted firearm with readily accessible ammunition, two counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited, and possession of a firearm without a proper license.

On Friday, Moores was handed six sentences, which will be served concurrently, with the three counts of possession of a restricted firearm landing him two and a half years.

He was given six months of time served towards his sentence, meaning he’ll be in custody for the next two years.
