The former Chief of the Fort McKay First Nation is being added to the Alberta Order of Excellence.

Jim Boucher is one of seven individuals who are receiving the highest honour a citizen can receive as an official part of the Canadian Honours System.

The Order of Excellence recognizes those who’ve made an impact provincially, nationally or internationally.

“Members of the Alberta Order of Excellence represent the best of our province,” said Lois E. Mitchell, Lieutenant Governor and Chancellor of the Alberta Order of Excellence.

“Their dedication, innovation and commitment to caring for others serve as a testament to the importance of active citizenship and a powerful reminder of the role we can each play in building a stronger future for our fellow Albertans and for all Canadians.”

Boucher was first elected Chief of the Fort McKay First Nation in 1986, holding the title for around 30 years. He was later defeated in the 2019 election by Mel Grandjamb.

While also being Chief of the FMFN, he served as Board Chair of the Fort McKay Group of Companies.
