Suncor, Shell Donate Supplies During COVID-19 Pandemic

Suncor Energy is donating thousands of N95 masks to help during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The oil company announced on Tuesday they had sent 40,000 masks to communities in Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, and the Yukon over the weekend.

This comes after the federal government sent out a request on March 20 to organizations to either donate or help create health supplies.

“Canadian companies are answering the call to provide critical support to our health care workers, who are on the front lines of our country’s fight against COVID-19,” said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, in a release.

“As the situation continues to evolve, the Government of Canada will be there to work with Canadian industry to find solutions that will support our medical professionals and protect the health and safety of all Canadians.”

In the past couple of weeks, the government has spoken directly with almost 3,000 companies who’ve committed to helping in some way.

Also joining Suncor in donating is Shell Canada.

They’re donating 125,000 litres of isopropyl alcohol which will be used to create hand-sanitizer.

This is expected to help create nearly one million 12-oz bottles of hand sanitizer for use in hospitals and medical facilities.
