The Keyano Huskies Men’s volleyball team entered the holiday break with the best record in their division.
The Huskies earned themselves another pair of wins over NAIT last weekend, winning the first game in straight sets – followed by a 5-set win on Saturday.
The wins improve Keyano to 13-and-1 on the season – good for 3rd place in the Nation – heading into the Kings Christmas Tournament in Red Deer.
Head Coach Keegan Kuhr tells Mix News it was a pair of statement wins over a very tough team.
“We really showed some grit and determination against NAIT to not lose in three sets on Saturday and to rally back and get that win in 5. All in all, I was really happy with how we responded and how we played this weekend. Lots to clean up still, but we look to control the North again and keep pushing forward.”
The Huskies have tournament games on tap with the OCAA’s Fanshawe College Falcons (ranked #1 in Canada) and the RSEQ’s Titans de Limoilou (ranked 6th).
Kuhr feels a good showing in Red Deer should give Keyano a sneak peek of what to expect heading into Nationals.
“Are we as good as the rankings say we are? Are we as good as some of the best teams in the country? Or do we have some things we need to work on? I think it’s a great opportunity to see who we are, what we’re about and what needs improving to get to that stage we wanna be.”
Keyano will also see one of the top teams from the PAC-West in the VIU Mariners as well as the OCAA’s Redeemer Royals – who are ranked 12th in the country.
The Kings Christmas Tournament gets underway on December 28.
