COVID-19 is claiming the life of five more individuals across Alberta.
Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, announced on Friday the additional deaths which brings the provincial total to 18.
Four were from the McKenzie Towne Continuing Care Centre in Calgary. There have now been eight deaths from this facility.
The other death was a woman in her 20’s from Edmonton. Hinshaw says it’s unclear at this time is she had any prior health issues.
“We can honour these people by recommitting to physical distancing and staying home whenever possible,” added Hinshaw.
Meanwhile, there are 107 new cases across the province which now brings Alberta’s total to 1,075. Hinshaw notes 196 individuals no longer have the virus.
None are the new cases are Wood Buffalo, keeping it at three across the RMWB, all of which are in Fort McMurray.
The north zone, which includes the region, now has 57 cases.
The others are in High Prairie, Slave Lake, Barrhead, Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Grande Prairie, Jasper, Hinton, Westlock, Peace River, High Level, Valleyview, and Falher.
Also, 196 cases are believed to be from community transmission.
“We are seeing that are knew daily numbers of community acquired cases have stayed relatively constant over the last 10 days,” added Hinshaw.
