Multiple non-profits across Wood Buffalo are continuing to operate despite concerns regarding COVID-19.
The Wood Buffalo Food Bank is still open for people in need of their services.
Due to a decrease in donations and the inability to find certain items at grocery stores, their hampers are smaller.
“We’re still serving as many clients as we can each day, it’s just the size of the hamper that we can give out is decreasing,” said Dan Edwards, Executive Director of WB Food Bank.
The Food Bank is currently in need of canned meat, canned fruits, canned veggies, and size 5 and 6 diapers.
Also, the Canadian Mental Health Association of Wood Buffalo is continuing to help people over the phone.
The organization is closing its Recovery College and Welcome Centre program to the public for the time being.
CMHA is providing tips to residents who may be struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, Waypoint is keeping its Emergency Women’s Shelter open 24/7.
They’re taking extra precautions to ensure everyone’s safety.
In the meantime, they are suspending in-person services and programs.
