The Government of Alberta is one step closer to getting their ‘war room’ up and running.
Energy Minister Sonya Savage announced on Wednesday they’ve started the process of creating their Canadian Energy Centre which would take a fact-based approach to counteracting the misinformation they believe is being spread about the oil and gas sector.
“The Canadian Energy Centre will focus on improving perceptions about the oil and gas industry,” she added, in a release. “Once fully functional, it will be a leading and authoritative voice on Alberta’s energy resources.”
The centre will be split into three units – the rapid response unit which will look to respond to misinformation spread through social and traditional media, the energy literacy unit which will create original content to elevate the general understanding of Alberta’s energy sector, and the data and research unit which will highlight actual evidence for investors, researchers and policy makers.
“The economic future of our province – and our country – is at stake, and our government will not let Albertans down,” said Savage.
The Canadian Energy Centre is expected to be up and running before the end of the year.
Meanwhile, this is just one step the provincial government has tried to take in an attempt to bring in more investment to the oilsands.
This includes fighting the federal government’s Bill C-69, which gives the federal government the power to oversee, review, and decide future infrastructure projects, and setting up a website where people can share information about anti-energy campaigns.
