The Wood Buffalo RCMP would like to remind drivers about the dangers of speeding.
Earlier this month, on May 5, at around 8:30 a.m., RCMP was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 63 near Taignova Crescent in Fort McMurray.
A Jeep SUV was observed going 134km/h in the 80km/h speed limit zone.
The driver was a 37-year-old male residing in Fort McMurray and was issued a mandatory court appearance for speeding.
On May 22, at around 3:00 p.m., a Hyundai Santa Fe was seen travelling at a high rate of speed on the Parsons Creek Overpass, southbound onto Highway 63.
The 39-year-old driver was found to be going 107km/h in the posted 60km/h zone.
The driver, a male resident of Fort McKay, was issued a violation notice for speeding.
The next day, on May 23, at around 1:45 p.m., RCMP was conducting enforcement on Stoney Mountain Road in Anzac.
A Blue Ford F150 was found to be travelling at 91km/h in the 50km/h speed limit zone.
The 17-year-old male driver from Fort McMurray was issued a violation notice for speeding.
The RCMP is reminding the public that there is no such thing as safe speeding.
They say that speeding reduces the driver’s ability to react quickly and safely, while also extending the distance necessary for the vehicle to stop.
They want to remind drivers that exceeding the speed limit is potentially dangerous.
