This year’s 25th annual Traditional Celebration of Achievement (TCOA) which highlights the region’s Indigenous students will be taking place this Wednesday, at Keyano Theatre.
Fort McMurray Public School Division, Fort McMurray Catholic Schools and Northland School Division are celebrating the First Nations, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) graduates of the Wood Buffalo region featuring students from Fort McMurray, Fort Chipewyan, Fort McKay, Anzac, Janvier, and Conklin.
Annalee Nutter, FMPSD Superintendent explained that the ceremony is a great way to highlight the student’s culture.
“We really want to show the students that you’ve done a great job, you’ve done the hard work and we really want to celebrate with you,” Nutter said. “We know that their culture is important to them, and we want to empower them with the knowledge that we appreciate their culture, and we want to create that sense of belonging for them.”
Students taking part in the TCOA will also be celebrated during their school’s regular graduation.
“FMPSD has always made our Indigenous students and education a priority. We know our students are poised for success. Here’s to their incredible future,” Nutter congratulated the graduates.
