March Mullets in Fort McMurray has raised over $16,000 for mental health programming in the region.
The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Wood Buffalo targets the campaign at bringing awareness to men’s mental health.
During an interview with Mix News CMHA Communications Coordinator, Mike Jones said that it was brought about to break down the stigma that men don’t need help.
When asked why the mullet, Jones stated that it’s not a haircut that is commonly seen and it catches the eye.
“When you see a mullet, you’re like wow, that guys got a mullet,” which Jones said connected with their slogan ‘Ask Me About My Mullet’.
During the March Mullets campaign, participating teams along with CMHA Wood Buffalo’s first 50/50 draw managed to raise $16,400.
All the money raised from March Mullets for Mental Health will go towards supporting Mental Health programming in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
CMHA Wood Buffalo have now set their sights on its next events, Record Store Day on Apr. 23, Mental Health Week on May 2-7, the #BuddyUP campaign in June, and their First Responders Golf Tournament on Sept. 9.
