In what is usually a slow month for donations, the Fort McMurray SPCA (FMSPCA) saw a huge uptick in monetary donations thanks to the ‘Betty White Challenge.’

The challenge encouraged people to donate towards animal rescues that were close to them on what would of been Betty White’s 100th birthday, January 17.
FMSPCA Executive Director Chuck Brandsgard said when he first heard of the challenge, they didn’t want to take advantage of it.
“We did our homework first. Made sure it was okay with the family and editor of the post, and once we did all our checking, we decided to roll with it. Honestly we expected some donations, but not as much as we did, it was a phenomenal turnout.”
UPDATE: We've heard from quite a view more charities & the AB now is just shy of $850,000!
And there are at least another 10 organizations that we know were accepting #BWC donations but haven't listed a tally yet.
