The Wood Buffalo RCMP’s inaugural Stuff a Cruiser event in support of the Wood Buffalo Food Bank (WBFB) having a great first year.
RCMP officers and staff headed out on Thursday from 10:00am to 3:00pm to stand outside the local Real Canadian Superstore and Joly’s Independent Grocer to ask shoppers to donate and fill their cruisers.
Cpl. Darrell Laboucan who was one of the officers’ collecting donations had indicated that their car was so full by 12:30, they had to wait for another police car to arrive to begin filling it, with the other location reporting the same thing.
“The idea was to fill one vehicle, but it exceeded our expectations and has gone phenomenally well,” Laboucan had stated regarding the generosity of the community.

“To put it into perspective, they (WBFB) gave us two full boxes of reusable bags which is roughly 200 bags for each location, and we’ve gone and asked for other boxes because we’re already out of them.”
The Food Bank had given officers a list of things that they were low on in their stock, then RCMP members handed out the list and a bag to shoppers, “then they go in and, whatever they can do, they can do.”
Laboucan commented that the idea was brought forward by another member that was currently off due to injury, who had come out from Nova Scotia where he had seen it done before to great success.
When Mix 103.7 asked if they would consider taking part in the Stuff a Cruiser event again, “absolutely, I can see this going on for years to come.”
