Fort McMurray’s active total of COVID-19 cases is continuing to rise.
The province announced on Tuesday 4,903 new cases over the past four days.
There are currently 15,486 active cases across Alberta, while there have been a total of 261,888 positive tests.
There are also 602 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 137 of which are in ICUs.
Locally, Fort McMurray added 87 new cases and 30 recoveries in the past 96 hours which raises the active total to 179.
The rural areas added seven new cases and one recovery, with the total of active cases now sitting at 13.
In total, 7,152 individuals across the RMWB – 6,796 in Fort McMurray and 356 in the rural areas – have recovered.
They are among the 243,995 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents over 93 per cent of reported cases.
There was also 17 new deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta over the past 24 hours – raising the total to 2,407.
To date, 18 individuals in Fort McMurray and one in the rural areas have died as a result of the virus.
Vaccination Update
Over 61 per cent of eligible residents in Fort McMurray and more than 41 per cent in the rural areas have gotten at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Right now, those born in 2009 or earlier can book an appointment at participating healthcare facilities.
This is the current breakdown for who’s gotten the vaccine in Fort McMurray:
- 75+: 509 people (76 per cent)
- 60-74: 4,849 people (75 per cent)
- 40-59: 15,897 people (69 per cent)
- 20-39: 14,455 people (50 per cent)
- 12-19: 4,063 people (60 per cent)
This is the current breakdown for who’s gotten the vaccine in the rural areas:
- 75+: 64 people (63 per cent)
- 60-74: 289 people (60 per cent)
- 40-59: 569 people (48 per cent)
- 20-39: 334 people (28 per cent)
- 12-19: 142 people (30 per cent)
