The next federal election will be happening sooner rather than later.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau officially called a snap election on Sunday which will be held on September 20.
On social media, he stated Canadians should get the chance to vote for who they want to ‘finish the fight’ against the COVID-19 pandemic and build back the economy.
As of Sunday, only the Maverick Party has announced an official candidate, community-resident Jonathan Meyers, for the riding of Fort McMurray-Cold Lake.
Incumbent David Yurdiga, who announced earlier this year he would be running, won’t be the Conservative Party candidate in September.
Cory Hann, Director of Communications for the Conservative Party of Canada, tells Mix News Yurdiga won’t be running due to ‘medical reasons.’
He’s represented the region in Ottawa since winning a by-election in 2014 to fill the position left vacant by Brian Jean.
