Conklin’s Nakewin Centre is being demolished after serving the community for around 25-years.
The municipality is getting rid of the building after deeming it no longer feasible or sustainable to continue to upgrade and repair it.
The centre has served the community since 1994 hosting different programs and activities while being a recreational facility for local residents.
In a statement sent to Mix News, Municipal Spokesperson Adam Hardiman says the community is replacing the building with the recently opened Conklin Multiplex.
“It’s also necessary to demolish this now-closed facility to help ensure public safety,” he added. “We recognize the Nakewin Centre was a focal point in the community for over two decades.”
Hardiman notes this step has been well communicated throughout the hamlet, especially over the past year.
