COVID-19 is claiming the life of another individual in Fort McMurray.
The province announced on Saturday six additional deaths from the virus across Alberta – one of which lived in the community.
This is the seventh death related to COVID-19 in Fort McMurray and the RMWB.
Daily Update
Fort McMurray’s active total of COVID-19 cases is seeing another decrease.
The province also announced on Saturday 621 new cases over the past day.
There are currently 15,502 active cases across Alberta, while there have been a total of 223,632 positive tests.
There are also 617 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 164 of which are in ICUs.
Locally, Fort McMurray added 45 new cases and 87 recoveries in the past 24 hours which lowers the active total to 1,159.
The rural areas added three new cases and two recoveries, with the total of active cases now sitting at 44.
Fort McMurray is back to being the worst in the province when it comes to spread of the virus.
The community is averaging around 1,459 cases per 100,000 people, while the Municipal District Of Bighorn is seeing around 65 less cases per 100,000 individuals.
In total, 5,386 individuals across the RMWB – 5,145 in Fort McMurray and 241 in the rural areas – have recovered.
They are among the 205,960 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents over 92 per cent of reported cases.
Vaccination Update
Over 39 per cent of eligible residents in Fort McMurray and 28 per cent in the rural areas have gotten at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Right now, those born in 2009 or earlier can book an appointment at MacDonald Island Park or participating healthcare facilities.

- 75+: 485 people (66 per cent)
- 60-74: 4,501 people (65 per cent)
- 40-59: 13,486 people (58 per cent)
- 20-39: 10,929 people (38 per cent)
- 12-19: 2,298 people (54 per cent)
This is the current breakdown for who’s gotten the vaccine in the rural areas:
- 75+: 60 people (57 per cent)
- 60-74: 268 people (52 per cent)
- 40-59: 492 people (42 per cent)
- 20-39: 264 people (22 per cent)
- 12-19: 68 people (23 per cent)
