Fort McMurray and the rural areas are seeing a rise in their active COVID-19 cases.
The province announced on Monday 5,107 new cases across Alberta over the past five days.
This raises the provincial total to 105,535 with 13,839 currently active. There are also 905 Albertans in the hospital for the virus, 136 of which are in ICUs.
Locally, Fort McMurray added 92 new cases and 58 additional recoveries which raises the active total to 248.
The rural areas saw two more cases and no new recoveries which puts the total of active cases at seven.
There are also two active cases in Wood Buffalo National Park.
In total, 1,277 individuals across the RMWB – 1,156 in Fort McMurray, 116 in the rural areas, and five in Wood Buffalo National Park – have recovered.
They are among the 90,554 who’ve recovered across the province. This represents over 85 per cent of reported cases.
There were also 96 new deaths from COVID-19 in Alberta over the past five days – raising the total to 1,142.
To date, three individuals in Fort McMurray have died as a result of the virus.
Meanwhile, a healthcare worker in Alberta has died from COVID-19.
“Health-care workers are doing all they can to protect the people they care for, their co-workers, and themselves,” said Tyler Shandro, Minister of Health.
“The dedication and remarkable commitment I’ve witnessed from health-care workers throughout the pandemic has never wavered – you have stepped up for this province in a time of need.”
The individual is reportedly from the Calgary zone.
