One person charged, another wanted after Fort McMurray cocaine seizure
FORT MCMURRAY — Police have seized 420 grams of cocaine and nearly $27,000 in cash following a drug trafficking investigation in Fort McMurray, resulting in charges against one Edmonton resident and an arrest warrant for another.
Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) says its Fort McMurray organized crime unit concluded the investigation on Sept. 24, 2026, following a search of a home in the Lower Townsite neighbourhood.
During the search, investigators seized 420 grams of cocaine, nearly $27,000 in cash and additional evidence of drug trafficking.
“ALERT works closely with the local detachment to share intelligence, disrupt drug trafficking, and ensure Fort McMurray is kept a safe community,” said ALERT Insp. Brad Lundeen.
Wood Buffalo RCMP assisted with the investigation.
Divine Ewo, 19, of Edmonton, has been charged with drug trafficking, possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.
Meanwhile, an arrest warrant has been issued for co-accused Nehemia Kassaye, 19, also of Edmonton.
Kassaye faces two counts of drug trafficking, and ALERT says their whereabouts remain unknown.
These allegations have not been proven in court.
Anyone with information about suspected drug or gang activity can contact local police or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
