Lottery winner Sivayogam DeJesus
FORT MCMURRAY — A Fort McMurray couple is $1 million richer after winning the top prize on a $10 Scratch & Win ticket.
Yogeshwaran Sivayogam and Jefelyn De Jesus won the prize on a $1,000,000 ULTRA ticket purchased at the Chevron at 312 Gregoire Drive.
Sivayogam said he realized he had won after scratching the ticket and noticing several matching numbers.
“When I scratched the ticket, I saw that a couple numbers matched and then I saw how much we’d won,” Sivayogam said. “I was in shock and then called my wife at work to tell her!”
De Jesus was initially skeptical when her husband called with the news.
“She couldn’t believe it and thought I’d lost my mind,” Sivayogam said. “When I got home, I showed it to her to prove it was real!”
The win comes after the couple closed their restaurant last year.
“We’re going to pay all our bills,” Sivayogam said. “We had to close down our restaurant last year, so this is going to help us greatly.”
“We feel very happy and blessed!” he added.
