FORT MCMURRAY — Alberta Wildfire is holding a recruitment open house in Fort McMurray later this month for people interested in helping protect communities and forests from wildfire.
The event will take place Oct. 21 at the Fort McMurray Provincial Building, 9915 Franklin Ave., from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Alberta Wildfire staff will be available to answer questions and provide information about employment opportunities.
Visitors will also be able to see and try some of the equipment used by crews on the fireline.
According to Alberta Wildfire, seasonal positions include frontline firefighting and roles supporting wildfire prevention and forest resource management.
Wildland firefighters can be deployed across the province, including to remote areas, where they work to contain and extinguish wildfires and help protect nearby communities and forests.
Applications for wildfire crew positions typically open in November for the following wildfire season, while applications for other seasonal jobs generally open in January.
Seasonal employment periods vary but usually run between April and October.
Alberta Wildfire also provides online and in-person wildfire management training through the Hinton Training Centre, which serves thousands of participants each year.
A second recruitment open house is planned for Dec. 8 for seasonal support positions available during the 2027 wildfire season.
