FORT MCMURRAY — The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is moving ahead with drainage improvements in Saprae Creek Estates, with work focused on three priority areas between Evergreen Place and Weiss Drive.
The municipality says the project is intended to address drainage concerns, improve water flow and support the long-term management of drainage infrastructure in the community.
Work began Sept. 9 and is expected to continue until Oct. 30.
The first phase includes three municipal drainage easements identified through previous design work, community feedback and RMWB field inspections.
In Easement A, crews will regrade the area to direct water toward the west ditch line at Spruce Valley Gate and east toward Easement C. Topsoil and sod will then be installed to improve water conveyance.
Easement C will also be regraded to direct water toward the ditch line at Weiss Drive. The work will include riprap, rock ditch checks, topsoil and sod to improve drainage and erosion control.
In Easement D, crews will regrade the lower portion of the easement near Weiss Drive to improve water flow into the ditch, followed by topsoil and sod installation.
The municipality says residents may experience temporary access restrictions and localized construction activity.
Parking, vehicle access and driveways may also be affected, and the contractor will need to access some backyards to reach the drainage easements.
Sena Constructors Inc. is carrying out the work.
Residents are being asked to obey construction signage and follow contractor instructions while work is underway.
