FORT McMURRAY — A 21-year-old Fort McMurray man is facing charges after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop on a motorcycle before police arrested him at his home.
Wood Buffalo RCMP Municipal Traffic Services say officers observed a grey Kawasaki motorcycle being used for stunt driving eastbound on Confederation Way around 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 16.
Police attempted to stop the motorcycle, but the driver allegedly fled at a high rate of speed.
RCMP did not pursue the motorcycle because of concerns for public safety.
Officers had interacted with the driver earlier that evening and obtained his identification and address.
Police went to the residence, where the man was arrested without incident.
RCMP later executed a search warrant at the home and seized the Kawasaki motorcycle.
The man is facing charges of flight from a peace officer and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
RCMP say he cannot be named until an Information is sworn.
The accused was released from custody on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on Sept. 23.
The allegations have not been proven in court.
