FORT McMURRAY — Arts Council Wood Buffalo has been selected as one of five featured celebration sites for Alberta Culture Days this September.
The organization will host three days of events and programming during the month-long provincial celebration of art, music, food, dance, history and cultural traditions.
“Alberta Culture Days is a wonderful opportunity for arts and culture to shine across Wood Buffalo,” Arts Council Wood Buffalo executive director Liana Wheeldon said in a release.
“Our region is home to artists, makers, performers, cultural organizations and community members who bring creativity and unique stories to life in so many ways.”
Other featured sites are the Calgary Public Library Foundation, Spruce Grove and District Agricultural Society, Arts on the Ave Edmonton Society and BIPOCFoundation in Lethbridge.
Alberta Culture Days begins Sept. 1, with free events planned in communities across the province throughout the month.
The Alberta government is providing $380,000 to 120 community organizations delivering Culture Days programming this year.
Arts, cultural traditions, heritage experiences and local creative work will be featured during the events.
Almost 240,000 people attended Alberta Culture Days activities across the province last year.
Albertans will also receive free admission to 20 provincially owned museums, historic sites and archives on Sept. 26 and Sept. 27.
“Alberta Culture Days brings communities together to celebrate the people, traditions and stories that define who we are as Albertans,” Arts, Culture and Status of Women Minister Tanya Fir said.
Wheeldon said Arts Council Wood Buffalo’s featured-site programming will give residents opportunities to experience local creativity, connect with others and celebrate the region’s culture.
