CONKLIN — A mobile mammography clinic will visit Conklin later this month as Alberta health officials continue efforts to improve breast cancer screening access in rural communities.
Primary Care Alberta says the Screen Test mobile mammography trailer will be stationed at the Conklin Multi Plex on Northland Drive on May 29.
The screening program is available at no cost for eligible individuals between the ages of 45 and 74, though appointments are required.
Health officials say mammograms remain one of the most effective tools for detecting breast cancer early, when treatment outcomes are often better.
A mammogram uses low-dose X-rays to examine breast tissue and can help identify cancer before symptoms develop.
The province says the mobile screening service is designed to improve access for residents living in communities where permanent mammography services are not readily available.
In addition to mobile clinics, breast cancer screening is also available through some hospitals and radiology clinics across Alberta.
Primary Care Alberta says residents should discuss personal breast cancer risks and screening options with healthcare providers.
Officials say the program forms part of broader efforts to expand access to preventative healthcare services across rural Alberta communities.
